Many digital media publishers generate revenue through online advertisements. Lately, this revenue stream has been threatened globally as consumers started using ad-blocking software. However, research has shown that in contrast to the rest of the world, many African users do not view ads in a negative light, which may offer an opportunity to online advertisers on the continent. Joining CNBC Africa to tell us more about this "uniquely" African opportunity is Yaron Assabi, Chairman of the Mobile Marketing Association and Founder of Digital Solutions Group.
The advertising industry is dominated by global agency networks. This episode interrogates whether globalisation creates highways to successful advertising in Africa or whether it just sets up roadblocks. Hosts Thebe Ikalafeng and Gordon Muller talk to Odette vd Haar, Association for Communication and Advertising(ACA), Clara Priester, Regional Director, East and Southern Africa at EducationUSA, and Lolu Akinwunmi, Group CEO, Prima Garnet Africa, Nigeria.

H&M, the Stockholm-based company, was forced to close several of its South African shops earlier this week after protesters trashed displays and destroyed mannequins. This after the clothing retailer was slammed on social media when it posted an image in their children's catalogue featuring a black child modelling a hoodie with the slogan "coolest monkey in the jungle". American rappers The Weekend and G-Eazy cancelled their partnerships with the company because of the ad. Our anchor Uche Okoronkwo was joined in studio by Media and PR expert, Norman Mudibo, for an in-depth analysis of this development. “La Sape” is a unique movement based in Congo that unites fashion-conscious men who are ready to splurge money they don’t really have on designer clothes. Dressing in stark contrast with their surroundings, these elegant ambiance-makers become true local celebrities… but this fame comes at a price. The Republic of the Congo in Central Africa can’t boast of high standards of living. Yet, there are men here who are prepared to spend a fortune on designer suits. They call themselves “sapeurs” – members of the “La Sape” movement. “La Sape” comes from French and stands for “The Society of Ambiance-Makers and Elegant People”. For its adherents, it’s all about style and elegance, the right combination of colours and textures, brand-names and the highest quality materials. They derive true joy fr...
A panel discussion at the Oxford Africa Conference 2017 with Abiola Oke, Mallence Bart-Williams and Trevor Stuurman moderated by Sissi Johnson. It is known that knowledge and power both reify and reconstitute one another. Who has the power resources to define what is knowledge, in turn can define knowledge to shore up power. Art, image and cultural representation in the African context carries the same logic. Depictions of Africa, and who gets to depict Africa, condition perceptions of Africa and Africans within global hierarchies, and set the bounds of what is perceived to be possible for the continent. In this manner, art and cultural output in the African context are crucial not only from a social perspective, but also through a developmental and even postcolonial lens. Today, how are ...

Climate change is no mystery. We know what we have to do to limit emissions and we know we need to change our behaviour and yet we fail to take the kind of action necessary. Why? In this earthrise film we delve into the complex psychology of human behaviour around climate change and how we can turn apathy into action. Regular earthrise presenter Gelareh Darabi travels back to her roots in British Columbia, Canada, where she meets Robert Gifford, an environmental psychologist. Professor Gifford has written extensively about the relationship between the human brain, psychology and climate change. "We are still very much focused on survival and the 'now'," he says. "We get comfortable in our lifestyles and interpret any sign of uncertainty as sufficient reason not to act." But there is a ray...
✱ 253 Hotels in Cabo Verde - Lowest Price Guarantee ► http://goo.gl/0qBUFj Travel video about destination Cabo Verde. Cape Verde is an exotic island world, an archipelago off the coast of West Africa it combines the flair of the Canaries with the charm of Africa. Explorers Christopher Columbus and Vasco Ad Gama lay anchor there in order to replenish supplies and repair their ships. It was not until 1445 that the fifteen islands were discovered and consequently became a Portuguese colony. We begin in the north east of the islands, in Sal. Crystal blue sea and endless sandy beaches, islands of both wind and sunshine with a volcanic lunar landscape twenty five kilometres long and twelve kilometres wide. Sal owes its name and colonization to its once most important export of salt which wa...
For Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the situation in Central African Republic (CAR) was unique: seeing a country descend into violence before its very eyes, being surround by killings and witnessing an entire community being targeted without being able to provide protection. When the Seleka offensive began, MSF teams were already firmly established in the country. This documentary explores many of the questions raised by this situation: Did the teams know what was to come? What did they make of the increasing violence and the events taking place? What operational response was called for? Should MSF call for armed intervention? And what should the international community be doing? What assistance can MSF provide now?
